TALLAHASSEE, FL-
Media Conglomerate Disney has done it again. The Walt Disney Company has bought
out yet another film company. For
$4 billion it bought Lucas Film this time. Lucas Films is responsible for the original Star
Wars film and the many adaptations that we’ve seen over the last few
years. This move puts Disney at the
forefront of producing
nearly all fantasy movies to come out in the future. Disney paid George Lucas
$4.05 Billion in stocks and cash to acquire his company.

Since Chief Executive Robery A. Iger took over Disney the company has been very aggressive as far as expansion goes. The company acquired Pixar studios in 2006 for $7.4 Billion, Marvel in 2009 for $4Billion, and now Lucas Films. Even though Iger is set to step down as Chief Executive in 2015 he will remain in the company and probably try to keep it as aggressive as possible.
With this new Disney purchase
fans can expect to see a new Star Wars film in 2015 and new additions
to the series every two or three years that follow. Even though Mr. Lucas no
longer owns the company he will have some creative control when it comes to
these new movies.
“It’s now time for me to pass ‘Star Wars’ on to a new
generation of filmmakers,” said Lucas
Lucas has been planning his retirement for a few years now
according to Iger and has put a lot of trust in Disney to take over his company
and continue on his legacy.
Spencer Bryant communications major at University of marland Eastern Shore says " Well its not a surprise to me that Disney would buy Lucas Films, they buy everything else. Disney owns way more things than people would know."
David Adams, a Star Wars fan from Maryland, said that he doesn't know how he feels about Disney heading up a new Star Wars or their even being a new one to begin with.
