Lucas Films is Bought out by Disney for $4 billion.

TALLAHASSEE, FL- Media Conglomerate Disney has done it again. The Walt Disney Company has bought out yet another film company. For $4 billion it bought Lucas Film this time.  Lucas Films is responsible for the original Star Wars film and the many adaptations that we’ve seen over the last few years.  This move puts Disney at the forefront of producing nearly all fantasy movies to come out in the future. Disney paid George Lucas $4.05 Billion in stocks and cash to acquire his company.

Since Chief Executive Robery A. Iger took over Disney the company has been very aggressive as far as expansion goes. The company acquired Pixar studios in 2006 for $7.4 Billion, Marvel in 2009 for $4Billion, and now Lucas Films. Even though Iger is set to step down as Chief Executive in 2015 he will remain in the company and probably try to keep it as aggressive as possible.

With this new Disney purchase fans can expect to see a new Star Wars film in 2015 and new additions to the series every two or three years that follow. Even though Mr. Lucas no longer owns the company he will have some creative control when it comes to these new movies.

“It’s now time for me to pass ‘Star Wars’ on to a new generation of filmmakers,” said Lucas

Lucas has been planning his retirement for a few years now according to Iger and has put a lot of trust in Disney to take over his company and continue on his legacy.

Spencer Bryant communications major at University of marland Eastern Shore says " Well its not a surprise to me that Disney would buy Lucas Films, they buy everything else. Disney owns way more things than people would know."

David Adams, a Star Wars fan from Maryland, said that he doesn't know how he feels about Disney heading up a new Star Wars or their even being a new one to begin with.

Twitter Blocks Anti-Semitic Posts

TALLAHASSEE, FL - Twitter blocked access to a Neo-Nazi account in Germany and the social network elected to block any and all anti-Semitic posts. This past week the trending topic “#unbonjuif”, which means “a good Jew” was flourishing in France last week. This was until The Union of Jewish Students of France called Twitter’s headquarters with complaints urging twitter to remove and block these postings.

The postings featured many different racial stereotypes against Jewish people as well as holocaust photos and various jokes. There were also some anti-Muslim posts included along with the hash tag.

Many twitter users were against blocking the hash tag and anything related to it, referring to this as censorship.

Another twitter user by the name of Craig Mcleod ( @barton71) posed the question “Who decides what is anti-Semitic and abusive?”

Florida State Student, Travis Gordon said that he feels twitter did the appropriate thing.  “ I’m sure the pictures and stereotypes violated the code of conduct twitter set down in its terms and agreements that you agree to when signing up for an account.” said Gordon.

Robert Reeves, Florida A&M Senior, says that he understands why twitter would block these postings. “That’s a sensitive subject to bring up in today’s times, it was smart to block it but it won’t stop it from happening again,” According to Reeves.

Breast Cancer Awarenes Customs

Each week I will start featuring some customs that I come across that really catch my eye. Up first this Week is an Air Jordan 6 custom that follows a breast cancer theme. This custom was selected for the fact that its Breast Cancer Awareness month and 6's are probably my favorite Jordan model. This custom was done by Da Prince Customs and he's got quite the skills when it comes to painting sneakers.Got to love the ribbons and powerful words he used on the shoe.  Polarized pink really seems to be in with shoes nowadays. What are your thoughts on these breast cancer customs?

The Latest Cop

I figured I would start my blog of with my latest sneaker cop O.G Nike Air Carnivores. I got these shoes off eBay for a steal about a week ago. Now this shoe has always been either really loved or really hated. But it was too hard to pass on for the price I got it for. I must say I'm happy with my latest addition to my collection. Wore them for the first time this past Saturday and easily one of the most comfortable shoes I've put on. Only issue was some minor midsole separation came with the wear but that was almost expected. I mean the shoe is 2 years younger than me, so I wasn't sure if they'd be wearable or not. But from the separation its nothing a little glue cant fix. Cant wait to put them on again though!
